My Photosmart C4780, after updating the SSID information (via the built-in web server on the printer), is no longer able to get out of the startup screen (HP logo with pulsating bar below it). Once powered on (but stuck on the logo), the power button has no effect either.

Of course, I can print by hooking up directly to with a USB cable, but that defeats the purpose of a WiFi enabled printer.

I have tried everything publicly stated in the forums around doing a "reset", but to no avail. There must be a reset button (all hardware has a reset button or jumper pads for this exact reason) somewhere accessible? So, before I start digging, if there is any other recourse, I would appreciate the advice.

Thank you

Hi @schandler

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

This printer does not have an option to perform a reset. However, we can perform a power reset that may help.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

If the issue persists, leave the printer unplugged overnight and then try powering it ON.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Kumar,

Having searched the forums for help on this issue, and seeing those steps pasted everywhere, I have been trying those steps over and over for the past five days with no success.

I’ve downloaded and tried updating the firmware, but it states it is up to date.

I’ve removed the ink cartridges hoping that might cause a fault to bring up some menu, knowing that was a long shot.

Yes, I can print by hooking directly to the printer via USB, but that’s not a viable long term solution.

That's unfortunate. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue with the display:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
