Print Both Sides - second page printing starts down page

HP ENVY 5640 e
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I print on both sides, the printing on the second side starts 2 inches down the page so every one is ruined.

Can someone please help?

Print Both Sides - second page printing starts down page

Hi! @GeorgeE50, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have issues printing two-sided from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you tried checking with a different brand paper?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

As you mentioned when you print two-sided from your printer the second's side prints two inches down.

Try the steps recommended below.

You can print on both sides of a sheet of paper automatically by using the automatic two-sided printing mechanism (duplexer).
1. From your software, select Print.
2. Make sure your printer is selected.
3. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box.
Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties, Options, Printer Setup,
Printer Properties, Printer, or Preferences.
4. Select the appropriate options.
On the Layout tab, select Portrait or Landscape orientation, and select Flip on Long Edge or Flip
on Short Edge from the Print on Both Sides drop-down list.
● On the Paper/Quality tab, select the appropriate paper type from the Media drop-down list in the
Tray Selection area, and then select the appropriate print quality in the Quality Settings area.
● Click the Advanced button, in the Paper/Output area, select the appropriate paper size from the
Paper Size drop-down list.
Click OK to print.
NOTE: After one page of the document has been printed, wait for the printer to reload the paper
automatically to print on the other side. You do not need to take any action.

Print Both Sides - second page printing starts down page

Hello MrRobot

Thank you for your advice but unfortunately, it has not solved the problem.

I have been printing on both sides for more than 2 years since I got the printer with no problem. I first noticed the problem with higher quality 90g/m2 paper but it is also happening with 80g/m2. I have not knowingly made any changes to the printer. I have checked things like paper size.

@GeorgeE50, thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps.

Update the printer firmware using this link: https://hp.care/2IyPMS3

If the issue still persists after updating the printer firmware, try uninstalling the printer software from the root level and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link: https://hp.care/2Iuy5ms

If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

Thank you.

This is bizarre. I've measured the pages and realised that the problem has to do with the page margins.

I have set the pages to A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) with all 4 margins at 2 cm. But the pages are prininting out as though the margins are set at Normal i.e all 4 at 2.54 cm!!

So somehow the PC or printer is ignoring my settings! It's worked fine for years.

Print Both Sides - second page printing starts down page

Hello

Have you not come across this before? My reaction is that it could be a setting problem with the printer. As I said, I have checked those in teh document but maybe I'm missing something?

@GeorgeE50

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I personally haven't come across this issue before, however, I have seen such cases being works on by others,

Which is why I recommended that you Contact HP to have a tech take control of your printer and get this sorted (this would make things easier for both you and the tech working on resolving the issue)

If you've already attempted to Contact HP and are unable to do so or you don't want to Contact them, let me know and I'll look for alternative options for you.

If you would like to thank me for my efforts to help you,

feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on the "Accept as solution" button.

Have a great day!
