After a recent update to the smart app my prints have been poor even with the ‘best quality’ setting. Any suggestions to improve the quality?

Hi @RC59
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the print quality issue.
To better assist you -
1) Are you experiencing this issue while making a copy as well?
2) Are you using genuine HP inks?
I'd suggest you check the inks levels using these steps - On the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon to display the current estimated ink levels.
If the ink levels are fine, print a Print Quality Diagnostic page using these steps -
1) On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.
2) Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.
Evaluate the report, if there are defects found, try step# 10 to 13 from this document.
If there are no defects in the Print Quality Report, let's try these steps -
Step#1 Try updating the iOS device. Refer to this document for steps.
Step#2 Try updating the printer's firmware. You may refer to this document for step by step instructions.
If the issue still persists, try printing using Apple AirPrint instead of HP Smart app - HP Printers - Printing with Apple AirPrint (iOS)
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
