HP Envy 7640 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer and scanner work find, but I notice the touchscreen suddenly has developed a shaded touchscreen.  Still works, but blinking and lines through the shading make it hard to see.  What's wrong?

Hi @mjp4

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the control panel issue.

Let's try these steps to reset the printer -

1) Take out the cartridges.
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Download and install the firmware update for Win 10 (64-bit) from this link

If the issue still persists, I have sent you a private message with the steps to perform a semi-full reset. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried it, and tried the firmware update, but it wouldn't let me update.  Only Refresh when it was choosing the printer.    So then I tried what you said in the personal msg.  It must cut you off after so many characters, as I couldn't get the whole message (" , click here to acces...") - it ends there and nothing to click on.   I couldn't follow it exactly as you said, but, I was able to swipe the touchscreen all over and finally found a Reset.  Tried that to reset factory settings and didn't seem to do anything different.  And it did keep all the language, time, etc. settings.  The touchscreen is still shaded, not uniformly,  and has vertical lines in it, but I can still read it.  And can still print from using it and from the computer.  Guess  I'm not going to worry about it.
