I've recently been experiencing printhead alignment issues.  I've been able to resolve them by unplugging and plugging in the printer or running the printhead alignment in the maintenance menu.  No I can't run printhead alignment or printhead cleaning operations from either the printer or the computer it is connected to.  I use HP ink cartridges from the HPInk service.

Hi @kmacneal

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support. We appreciate your patience.

What is the exact error message on your printer?

Are you able to make copies using the printer?

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet

Try the steps in the document -'Alignment Unsuccessful' Error Message Displays

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried power resets a few times without any success.  It now seems to have resolved itself.

I spoke to soon.  After printing a few pages, it's back.  Error message is "Problem with the Printhead".  When I go into the maintenance menu on the printer and select "Align Printhead", an info message pops up basically telling me to make sure I have paper loaded (I do), when I click OK, nothing happens.

@kmacneal

The issue here is with the printhead of the printer. Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document to resolve this issue.

If the error persists, I'm afraid this is a hardware failure. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

It looks like my printhead is DOA.  I don't have the one with the arm to make it removable.  The printer is out of warranty.  Because of this, I don't see a way to contact HP support other than this form.  Is this printhead replaceable?  If so, how do I get a replacement?
