HP Officejet Pro 8000 Printer series - A809
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am able to airprint from my iPhone to the HP printer and make copies, but cannot print from my desktop computer.  It gives me the error message "printer is in error state".  There is one document that is stuck in the print que.  I tried to cancel it and it has said "deleting" for several days.

This problem started after AT&T came out and upgraded our internet.

@Bailey22

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Officejet Pro 8000 Printer and it does not print from your Win10 desktop PC. The printer prints fine from other devices. This confirms that the printer is good and the evidence points towards the drivers. I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button and then unplug the printer power cord from the power outlet.

  • Save your work. After using these steps, your current print jobs are lost and will need to be printed again.

  • Open Windows Services using one of the following methods:

    • Search Windows for services, and click Services in the list of results.

    • On your keyboard, press Windows key ( ) + R, type services.msc in the window that opens, and then click OK.

  • Scroll through the list of services and find the name Print Spooler.

  • Right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.

Figure : Stop selection for Print Spooler Service

Service window the Print Spooler service selected from the Name list and the Stop selection called out.

  • After the service has been stopped, close the service window and use Windows Explorer to browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS.

  • Delete all files inside the PRINTERS folder.

  • Shut down your computer from Windows.

  • Make sure you printer has been unplugged for at least 60 seconds, and then plug the power cord into a power outlet.

  • Turn on the printer using the power button on the printer.

  • Turn on the computer and wait for Windows to open.

  • Try printing again and note what happens.

    • If the printer prints, you are done.

    • If the print job becomes stuck again, continue to the next step.

If the issue persists then please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

Now, you may try to print from your Win10 desktop PC and check. For some reason, if the issue persists then let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall the drivers. The following steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the drivers from this link

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂
