Printer is offline and is unresponsive

HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One

Printer is offline. Touchscreen is unresponsive. Power and Wifi led are on.  I have to re-power the printer to get it working again.  Seems to happen after sitting for a day or two.  I use the printer to print from Window 10, Mac OS Catalina, and iPhone.

The printer works fine after I cycle the power.  After several hours the printer will fall offline.  The power button is lit and the wifi led is on.  The screen is off and does not respond.  I cannot turn the printer off with the power button.  I have to cycle the power by pulling the power plug.  Then the printer works again.

@reed1001

Thanks for replying!

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Assign manual IP to the printer

The steps on how to set a manual IP address can be found here.

For the DNS servers please use 8.8.8.8 for the Manual Preferred DNS Server and 8.8.4.4 for the Alternate DNS server. These are Google’s public DNS servers.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
