I have the above printer for some time. Did not use it for two years since i bought the office jet8600. I wanted to print some photos. So i powered the 309 and found all the inks are empty. Bought the ink. And insertrd and the printer acknowledged genuine hp ink cartridge s.
i cleaned the printer head and try to print. Blank sheet comes out. Asked for printer status report. Just a horizontal blue line in the upper part of the paper.
When i asked for the ink level black photo ink is low.
i am going to buy the photo ink and try. In the mean time, any body knows what may be the problem?

I think the print-head nozzles are clogged since you did not use the printer for such a long time. I am confident that by using new cartridges the issue should be fixed.
But just in case if the issue still persist, i'd recommend you to try all the troubleshooting steps as mentioned in the below URL.
