Printer not findable on wifi without restart

HP officejet pro 6830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello and thank you for reading. I have had an officejet pro 6830 for about 2 years and it generally works well. The one problem is after a short while of non-use (perhaps an hour or more), the printer becomes unreachable and unfindable by Wi-Fi printing. If I turn the printer  off and restart,  it's immediately findable. I've tried the utilities and read every forum I can find but nothing seems to have worked. Any suggestions?

Printer not findable on wifi without restart

 @Hepack, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Try the steps below and see if that works. Here is what you need to do-

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. For more information, go to Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.

Assign manual IP to the printer-

The steps on how to set a manual IP address can be found here. For the DNS servers please use 8.8.8.8 for the Manual Preferred DNS Server and 8.8.4.4 for the Alternate DNS server. These are Google’s public DNS servers.

If the issue persists, try adding a TCP/IP port-

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report from the Printer Settings or Wireless menu.
  2. Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, click the Ports tab and then click Add Port.
  3. Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.
  4. Follow the instructions to add a new port using the information listed on the Network Configuration Report.
  5. Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Printer not findable on wifi without restart

Thank you so much for responding! I've added the manual IP, downloaded the software, and everything else but still no response after 30 minutes. I have not yet added the TCP port.. but wouldn't that be computer specific?  the problem we're having is with every device including phones.  The eprint feature does not work after 30 mins as well, which to me implies something is happening with the printer itself?

@hewpacks

Thanks for replying!

Yes, adding TCP/IP port is computer specific.

Does the blue wireless light on the printer starts blinking after 30 mins of inactivity? Or it just loses connection with other devices?

Also, check with the Internet Service Provider about the communication issue. You may need to go into your router settings and try changing the channel manually. Experiment with different channels to see which one works best.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

The blue light is solid.  No blinking.

Could you provide a little more info on changing channels?

Also, might a full hard reset help? If so, happy to try that if you think it might work.  Please just let me know your recos and instructions.

@hewpacks

Blue light being solid is a sign that that the printer is connected to the network. It is just that there is a communication issue between the printer and other devices. Changing the channel is router specific and I'd suggest you contact your ISP for help.

Performing a reset is not required as the printer has stable connectivity.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
