Hi, I have a new inkjet printer, but all the images i print have horizontal lines on them. Why is that and what do I do to fix it?

Hi,

Horizontal lines could be because of cartridge please remove and clean cartridge and try printing again.

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Hello Sara,

[First off, the problem very might be the cartridges need replacing - they EASILY could be defective and you request replacements, either from your retailer or HP at the next link.  You might purchase replacements (maybe just black? than color) to find if that solves it and then seek replacements.   http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

However, still at least remove/reinstall, clean and manually clean plus review the Print Quality Diagnostic test page.  Those are easy steps.]

Here's some links to get you started.  If nothing herein solves it, please reply for further steps.  Plus If any step/process corrects it; forgo further actions. Please Reply With Results.  It's helpful to provide the computer, ipad, iphone etc. and it's Operating System (Win 10, Mac iOS 10, etc.) on which the printer is installed.

First just remove and reinstall cartridges (2 or 3 times if needed) and try a test print after each time.  Any help?

As DevRyo suggests, clean the cartridges.  Step 10 in the last link details as follows:

  1. Load plain paper into the input tray.
  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.
  3. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.
  4. The printer performs the automated cleaning process, and then prints a Print Quality Diagnostic page.  After which, if the print quality is acceptable, you can stop troubleshooting.  What happened, any results?
  5. NOTE Step 13 in the last link details how to manually clean around the ink nozzles (do not clean the nozzle areas).

On this next link, do several things.  First run Print and Scan Doctor.  Any results?

Then click on tools, where you see how to Clean Cartridges plus Print Quality Diagnostics. etc.  Any results?

Hello again Sara,

Yes, the link works and it looks like the problem is Vertical Lines not Horizontal.  The images appear as if they are Portrait and not Landscape, so the narrow end (of the output paper) goes into the paper tray.  Is that correct.

Have you performed some of the steps in the links, such as Print and Scan Doctor.  Please report what has been accomplished and results.

Hoping to hear, and I will check back daily.  good luck
