HP OfficeJet Pro 8024
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I've just bought an OfficeJet Pro 8024 printer and it shuts down nearly every time I try to print or scan. I have managed to print and scan from it, but more often than not it just tries to shut down. I've tried all sorts to fix it - unplugging the printer for at least 60 seconds, updating it (it was already up to date so there were no updates), manually entering the IP address. Nothing has resolved the problem so far. I've also turned off schedule on/off and auto-off is set to after 4 hours.

It also doesn't actually shut down; it just stays on the 'shutting down' message indefinitely. I have to switch it off at the wall or lift the lid of the scanner for it to actually shut down, and when I switch the plug back on, I usually have to lift the lid of the scanner for it to reboot. But then when I try to print or lift the lid to scan something, the 'shutting down' message appears again. The power button doesn't work when trying to turn it on/off.

For extra info, there are no error messages or driver changes, and I have a wireless internet connection. It's also plugged directly into a wall outlet. However, when something is in the print queue, it sometimes says that the printer is not connected. Note it only tries to shut down when I go to print or scan; it's fine when navigating the options on the printer's screen.

I'd really appreciate someone's help with this as it's incredibly frustrating and making it very hard for me to get work done.

Many thanks.

Hi @Holly351

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Resetting the printer to its factory settings may help.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
