Officejet Pro 8600

I'm so unbelievably frustrated with HP right now. We first had an Officejet 6500, which broke after a couple of years. I loved that printer, so we got the Officejet 8600, which I have loved until this week when I got an error stating that the printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. We don't print very much, so this makes me think that HP sells expensive printers with cheap printerheads that need replacing. It is frustrating because the printer still prints out the alignment test page perfectly...so why can't it print anything else?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Can I get the same response? This is a very frustrating situation. HP printers are premium $$$ as well as the ink that is high $$$. The printer should not stop because of bad electronics. And if so, HP should offer a solution that is less than the cost of rebuying the whole printer again. I am very scared to drop another $250 on the updated model with no assurance the print head will fail before 50K copies (2 months of the duty cycle).
