Solved!

Printing envelopes

OfficeJet Pro 8720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Want to print addresses on wedding invitation envelopes.  Envelopes are size  A10, 6 inches by 9.5 inches.  This size of envelope is not supported by my printer.  When I try to print it tells me that the size of the paper in the tray does not match the size of the paper as specified by the print job.  Any workaround?

Printing envelopes

@Mogold

Your Printer supports Custom sizes.

Load Envelopes

Remove the regular paper from the tray,

Load your envelopes - pay attention to the "flap" position and orientation required by your printer.

Note:  Most consumer printers do not support Envelopes in Tray 2

User Guide > Load Paper > Page 20-21

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

On the printer control panel, Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

Create a Custom Paper Size form for your envelope

Custom Form

HP Document:

HP Printers - Creating Custom Paper Sizes

  1. Availability (of the Custom Form feature) and how the form is created depends on printer model and software and Operating System / Version.
  2. Custom Paper form as described requires that the Full Feature Software for the printer has been installed.
  3. If the feature is at least partially supported the Custom Setup will be available in Devices and Printers OR in Printer Preferences.
  4. If the feature is fully supported, the custom form can be created AND then used with the printer software.

Where Located

  • Devices and Printers > Print Server Properties

OR

  • Printer Preferences > Print Dialog > Paper / Quality > Custom setting box

Example 1

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Left-Click on your Printer one time to highlight >

Left-Click Print Server Properties (along the top ribbon)

Example 2

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click on your Printer > If necessary, select printer from drop down menu / list

Printing Preferences > tab Paper/Quality > Custom

Depending on Printer Model / Software, changing the paper in the tray may require that the paper settings be adjusted on the printer control panel.

  • Open Tray> Remove existing paper, load new Paper > Check printer control panel: “Modify” > select Paper Size or “Custom” > OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

=======================================================================

Create and Print Envelope

Open Word

New document

Mailings > Envelopes

If using Outlook to find / add the addresses, it might be necessary to open Outlook (sounds silly, I know).

Create your Envelope - be sure to select Custom as the Envelope size.

If the (new) custom form is not listed in the drop-down menu, select Custom > Enter the dimensions for the envelope

The recommended solution by Dragon Fur was easy to implement and worked like a charm.  Literally saved my marriage.
