Printing from iMac to Office jet Pro 8720

OfficeJet Pro 8720
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Fairly frequently it takes quite a while (several minutes) for my HP office jet 8720 to start printing from my iMac running Mojave.  It seems it takes a while to communicate via the wifi wireless connection.  How do I get rid of this delay?

Thanks for any help suggestions!

Printing from iMac to Office jet Pro 8720

Hi @jwhkchawk

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you

Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support. We appreciate your patience.

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Check the print driver settings

Check the print driver settings. Selecting certain paper types or printing in Best or Maximum DPI quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in Normal or Draft quality for faster print speeds.

  1. On your Mac, open the photo or document you want to print.

  2. Open the photo or document you want to print, click File, and then click Print. For the Photos app, click the Print button at the bottom of the window.

    The print settings window opens.

  3. Make sure your printer is selected.

  4. If you do not see options on the Print dialog box, click Show Details.

  5. Click the unnamed menu at the center of the window, click Paper Type/Quality or Media & Quality, and then select Normal or Draft from the Quality or Print Quality menu or slider.

Try steps 4-7 in the document -Slow Printing (Mac)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
