Printing in green instead of black

Envy Photo 6234
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Envy 6234 printer has started printing in green instead of black.  I've tried changing the black cartridge but no difference.  If I remove the colour cartridge it then prints in black so, I assume, when both cartridges are in place the printer defaults to the wrong cartridge.  How do I fix this?

Solved!

Printing in green instead of black

@ColinJones1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried making a standalone copy in black and color to check if the issue persists? This will help us conclude if it is a hardware or a driver issue.

Cleaning the ink cartridges may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:

Check the estimated ink levels

On the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon  to display the current estimated ink levels. Replace any low or empty ink cartridges.

Use the automated tool to clean the ink cartridges.

  1. On the control panel, touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

  3. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic page

  1. On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.

If the issue persists, perform step 13 mentioned in this document. Once done, try making a copy in black and color.

Let me know how this goes.
