Dear Davidsmp,

Thank you for your suggestion of trying the printer with another computer.  I do not have access to one but considered asking a friend who I should see in a few weeks.  I then realised he has a smart phone and thought of asking him to use this.  In the meantime however things have moved on.

I scanned a document recently but when I tried printing it the printer did not fully eject the paper.  I wondered about the print spooler and had looked at the Envy 5530 instruction manual online, on page 76.  I checked on the PC that under 'Properties' on the General tab 'automatic' was selected, but thought if I accessed this while printing was stuck I could look under 'Service status' and see if I could click on the Start button.  It took a while to access the settings but before I could do anything the paper ejected - on previous occasions I left it for 5 minutes or more and it never ejected.  I tried again but this time it did not print at all so I tried twice more with no results.  I then accessed the print queue and found one document said 'printing' and the other two did not.  I clicked on the printing one and it printed OK followed by the others.

Following this I printed pages 2-3 and page 2 of the original document I had problems with ( opened using Reader) and the double sided letter from Notepad - in all cases they printed fully and emerged from the printer straight away with no problems at all.

I hesitate to say the problem is solved but it appears to be and I have no idea what I did to do this.  From this I believe the problem was with the printer and possibly just confirming the setttings helped in some way.

Thank you again for your help.

Regards,

Mike
