I just installed a new color ink cartridge. I've had my printer for a couple of years and never had a problem with colors not looking right, but now they're all messed up. Orange looks pink. Clover green looks very dark green. Brown looks reddish purple. I didn't change anything other than the ink cartridge, so I'm inclined to think it's the cartridge, but I hate to think that, because they're expensive. So if it is a defective cartridge, I want to be sure of that so I can get my money back.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

@neverGuess, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are you using a HP Ink cartridge?

Have you tried using the old/alternate color ink cartridge and check if the issue persists?

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Check the estimated ink levels

On the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon  to display the current estimated ink levels.

Clean the ink cartridges

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

    The Setup menu displays.

  2. Swipe the display up, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  3. Touch Clean Cartridges.

Also, perform step 14 mentioned in this document.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

    The Setup menu displays.

  2. Touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.

Let me know how this goes.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like the yellow is not coming out. On the print quality diagnostic printout, the yellow box is blank. I've attached a scan of the printout. The ink levels check shows the levels of cyan, magenta and yellow to be equal, though. Should I return the cartridge?
