Microsoft Windows Vista

I installed a new HP black ink cartridge and the black ink stopped printing.  I cleaned print heads several times and still does not work.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "Missing black" issue. 

 

To better assist you - 

 

1) Does the copy come out the same way? 

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices? 

 

While you respond to that, let's print a Print Quality Diagnostic page -

  1. Load plain white paper in the tray.
  2. On the printer, touch Settings, touch Tools and then touch Print Quality Report.

Post the Print Quality Diagnostic page here so we can help you further.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Dear Jay:
Thanks for your response!

1) Copy does not print any black ink

2) Used Word Excel and email print - all do not print black

3) Print Quality report shows perfect alignment and colors for the three colors and the black box is blank

4) I update the firmware as you suggested and no change.

5) I checked out the "Black ink..." Article and the only question left is changing printheads and the text shows a different printer with ink tanks.

 

Anything else we can try?

I followed all the steps in the article and still "no joy".  It says to arrange for repair.

Can I change a printhead myself?

The printhead on this printer is not replaceable, I suggest you contact the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

 

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
