A few days ago I installed an hp envy 7855 printer and I cannot get out of single cartridge mode...the printer will only accept the color cartridge...I have tried a reset but still the same issue...this should NOT be an issue with a NEW printer!

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'd like to know the following-

 

Do you have any error messages on the printer?

What happens when you try to make photocopies?

What is the Operating System installed on the computer?

Running latest windows 10...prints OK...no error messages except to remove the second cartridge

Follow the steps from the document  Ink Cartridge Errors, if the issue persists it could be a hardware failure.

 

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
