I tried the steps you suggest for unlocking my printing preferences, but it won't allow me to delete. The error message I get is: Unable to remove HP Envy 7640 series x40, type 3 user mode 40.

The specified printer driver is currently in use.

 

I tried again after shutting down my printer and rebooting my computer.

Now what?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

If you're on Windows Operating System, uninstall the HP printer software the normal way by going to the Control Panel>Programs.

 

Once done, install the built-in drivers: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
