I've just bought the HP ENVY 5010, thinking I can use ink cartridges other than those supplied by HP.  It appears not from this discussion.  Did I miss something in the small print when I ordered the printer or is this a case of mis-selling?

HP printers do allow approved 3rd party suppliers for cartridges.  The execption is if you are enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program.  You can read in the fine print that HP Instant ink printers require cartridges sent from your HP subscription.

 

If you are not using the Instant Ink subscription and believe you have a valid 3rd party cartridge then contact your 3rd party cartridge supplier for support.  They can provide you with more information on their policy for duds and replacement cartridges.  If that supplier has an issue with HP then they need to hash it out and deliver you a solution.  That is not something HP can assist you with.
