HP printer D1660, manufactured in 2007, placed in storage in 2007, ink cartridges were removed. I bought it to use as a portable printer back when I was traveling a lot but we stopped traveling as much and we found we didn't really need a printer when we were camping. I took it out of storage to replace my Photosmart printer which quit working.
Should I buy a new printer since this one is very old (12 yr) ? The drivers have been updated, but it keeps giving me an error code even though I put unused ink cartridges into the bins. I hate to waste the money to buy brand new ink cartridges if I'm going to buy a new printer.
(My other printer (HP Photosmart Plus) stopped working after I tried to "save" money by using a non HP ink. Even when I removed the non HP ink and installed new HP ink, it would not work and kept giving me an error code for the ink. I cleaned it with alcohol but to no avail. Now it sits on the junk pile waiting to be recycled. )
