Do I have to replace both color and black inks at the same time even though color has not been depleted?  The last time I tried that and replaced just the black cartridge, I couldn't get the printer to even print the sample page to set it up.  It only printed with one cartridge.  Had to replace both even though I have still have partial cartridge  of color.

No, you only need to replace the emptied cartridge. It can even continue to print when ONE color ran out on the tri-color cartridge.

 

That is very strange, probably during the replacement process caused this.
