Product: Officejet Pro 8610

It took me 2 hours to solve this frustrating problem so I want to post the solution in case it helps others.

 

My 8610 suddenly started giving the error "one or more cartridges appear to be damaged". It complained about both Black and Magenta. The solution that worked was to enable Web Service and checking for software updates. The way to do this is as follows:

- Go through the wifi setup to put the printer onto your network

- Once on wifi, do this. Setup --> Web services --> follow the steps. Once it's setup, go back here and selected "printer Update", then "check for update now".

 

I assume it downloads the latest firmware.
