Can anybody tell me about this application and why it's holding the installation of the Printer drivers?

How do I finally get my Printer to start functioning again so I can get some work done!

I came across your message about the printer issue and wanted to pop in to help 🙂

I understand that you are having issues while installing your Photosmart 6520 printer on your computer. Let’s try a clean install to fix this issue. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
  • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
  • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer”  – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
  • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
  • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
  • Now restart your computer again.
  • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL43742/mp-108722-3/PS6520_1315-1.exe and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable only when prompted.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck & Wish you a very happy new year 🙂

It was Kasparsky that was interfering and not letting the HP Driver install.

Thanks for your help.

Hello @warp4dennis,

Thanks for the update!

Did you try the steps I mentioned above? "Call to driver package" issue should be fixed by following the clean install like I mentioned above.

If the issue persists, you can try the steps mentioned below:

1. Uninstall the printer files completely as I mentioned above.

Try using Microsoft Fix It tool to uninstall. You can download it here: http://hp.care/2dHImNI

2. Perform a clean boot of Windows.

Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2iiL5jr

3. Once you boot the computer, restart the following services. (Steps in my above message)

Remote procedure call, Windows Installer, Shell hardware detection & Function Discovery Provider Host.

Make sure all the above mentioned services are started.

4. Turn off any antivirus / anti-firewall applications you have.

5. Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL43742/mp-108722-3/PS6520_1315-1.exe and install the software.

Make sure the USB cable is unplugged and only connect the cable if prompted.

Let me know how that goes!

Good luck 🙂
