HP Photosmart 5520

Hi there,

So my printer is stuck on "Aligning cartridges.  Please Wait......".

I have tried removing the ink cartridges turning off the machine, unplugging it, and rebooting with no success.

Everytime the printer asks me to re-insert the ink cartridges to proceed and then gets stuck on the "Aligning cartridges.  Please Wait......"

Is there anything I can do or do I need a new printer?

Thanks

Hi @HP_HPHP,

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, your printer is giving an error message.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

When was the last time it worked fine?

What is the operating system on PC?

Let's try these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Hard Reset:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Once you've completed troubleshooting steps, try aligning the printer:

Align the Printer

If there were defects on the Print Quality Diagnostic report, align the printhead.

Follow these steps to align the printer using the control panel

  1. From the home screen, touch the Setup icon (), and then touch Tools.

  2. Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Align Printer. The alignment page prints.

  3. Lift the lid on the printer, and then place the alignment page print side down in the right front corner of the scanner glass.

  4. Figure: Place the alignment page on the scanner glass

Image: Place the alignment page on the scanner glass.
  5. Close the lid, and then press OK on the control panel. The printer will align automatically. Press OK to continue.

Let me know how this goes,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers!
