The screen is purple and has no text.  I can print and scan but without the screen in its normal mode I cannot make copies of documents.  I tried unplugging from the wall and leaving it to 3 minutes but that did not work.  The printer is only about 5 months old (no longer under warranty).

Welcome to HP support community.

 

Is the printer connected directly to the wall outlet?

Meanwhile:

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware using computer.

Your solution did not work.  The printer screen remains purple and as such I cannot read anything on the screen.  I can print and I can scan documents using my computer.  The screen does not show anything which means I am not able to use it to make copies of documents.  The latter is the real issue here.  I need the printer to be able to copy documents quickly and easily.

This seems to be a hardware issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
