The little tray that supports the prints as they are ejected is locked closed.  I checked the Lock/Unlock

button on the bottom of it and it is in the unlocked position however it will not open.

Hi @SueAnneD

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "tray extender is stuck" issue.

The Output Tray has an auto-deploy feature so that the printer will automatically eject it to catch the paper, but it does not retract it you will have to push the tray in.

Let's try a power reset on the printer-

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  6. Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

if the printer is under warranty generally after this step the tray will be replaced, however, if you wish to try a few of my personal trade secrets on fixing the issue, and I must say, it's a little unorthodox too, and if you wish to try the steps at your own discretion, here's what may fix the issue.

You could use a tweezer or any tool that would help you pull the tray extender out.

if you aren't comfortable doing this or If the issue continues, please contact  HP Customer Support regarding service options for your printer

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!
