Re: Vista / Win 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide

Printing a trifold brochure from MS Publisher.  When I print as two-sided, the left and right margins get bigger causing the folds to occur in the wrong place.  In other words, it is not printing as it appears in the layout.  When I print as single-sided (on two pieces of paper), the margins are correct and printing matches layout.  Using Windows Vista.  HP 8500 Officeject printer.  Have matched page margins in Publisher to HP minimum margins at 0.13".  Have tried turning Off Two-Sided Print Properties and manually setting two-sided in Print menu.

Re: Vista / Win 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide

I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8500 that I am using with my laptop that has Windows 7 upgraded from Vista.

When I first set it up, it worked fine (last week).  Then this week I turn it on, and it prints the backside of each page upside down.

Your list of patches does not seem to include the 8500.

Re: Vista cp 1700 bubblejet A3 Printing Troubleshooting Guide

I have a cp1160 and, as others reported, automatic duplex support is not included with Windows Vista. I have not found any solution that works. I did see in another forum by Bob that the deskjet 6500 driver works. I do not know how to install the 6500 driver for the cp1160. I did not see specific instructions. Is this still the only solution? If so, I would appreciate instructions. If there's a new solution, patch, or driver for Vista, let me know. Thank you!!

I have a cp1160 printer with an automatic duplexer.  I just upgraded to Windows 7 and cannot activate the automatic duplexer.  When I go to the devices and printers, right click on the printer, choose printer properties, device settings tab ... there is no choice to activate the automatic duplexer under the installable options.  There is an option to allow manual duplexing which is enabled.

For the cp1160 use the Deskjet 6500 driver as follows:  go to the Devices and Printers folder, right click on the cp1160, Printer Properties, Advanced, New Driver, Next, HP, Deskjet 6500  (if this does not appear in the list select "Windows Update" and wait for the list to repopulate), Next, Finish.

I have been using this printer (Officejet Pro K550 dtn) at work for a couple of years now and everything has been going ok (except for very very annoying feed problems almost constantly). But lately, it has stopped recognizing that the auto-duplex unit is installed and will only print 2-sided manually. This causes a great deal of wasted paper because it does NOT do this well at ALL. This is my only auto-duplexing printer in the office that is quick and does not use large amounts of ink. I recently upgraded my work computer to Windows Vista 64-bit. I cannot remember if I have successfully printed anything from the auto-duplexing unit on Vista but I will test this on an XP machine to see. I have tried removing the auto-duplexing unit and putting it back in, turning the printer on and off, unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable, trying different document types, to no avail. I also tried checking the Device Settings in the properties of the printer, there is no option to use the auto-duplexing unit or turn it on. Allow Manual Duplexing is the only available duplex-related option and it is enabled. Auto-duplexing does not work if I disable it either (then I just have no duplexing options!). Hopefully someone can help with this, I have a large volume of two-sided documents that I need to print soon and it will be a major waste if I have to use this printer + manual duplexing (because of the feed problems) or if I have to use one of my other printers (not as fast and use much more ink).

Re: Vista / Win 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide

I have tried to change to the 6500 driver in order to access the automatic duplex on my cp1160 printer.  I'm using Win 7.   When I click the update driver button and choose the 6500 series driver everything seems okay.  But when I try to then access the Printer properties so that I can activate the automatic duplex option, the computer says that the 6500 driver has not been installed and would I like to install it.  I choose to install with the same results.  I'm in an endless loop.

So then I tried uninstalling the printer and adding a printer.  This time I am able to install the driver and I can access printer properties, but it does not print.  I think this has to do with the port.  I try to choose the USB port it last has but it does not recognize it on the port.  Then when I restart the computer or turn on the printer Win 7 automatically recognizes the printer and installs it with the cp1160 driver.  I then have tried to modify the port of the HP 6500 device that I installed earlier to reside on the same port as the cp1160 that Windows installed ... but it still uses the cp1160 driver.

How do I get it to use a different driver!

Some users have issues using the automatic duplexer in Vista or Windows 7.  This guide addresses some of the common issues and provides some solutions.

No option for two-sided printing. The selection for automatic two sided printing may be grayed out, or only manual duplexing is offered.  This typically occurs because the duplexer is not recognized as installed, or the driver may default to not installed.   To correct this in Vista do the following: go to Start, Control Panel, Printers, right-click on the printer, Run as Administrator, Properties, (continue), Device Settings, Installable Options, set the "Two Sided Duplex Unit" to installed, OK.  For Windows 7 the method is similar:  go to Start, Devices and Printers, right click on the printer, Printer properties, Device settings, Installable Options, set the "Two Sided Duplex Unit" to installed, OK.

"Duplexer Hardware not Installed".  Some network connected printers such as the Photosmart C7280 may incorrectly indicate that the duplexer hardware is not installed when printing duplex pages.  Clicking "OK" will cause the pages to print properly.  HP has released updates for the drivers that address this issue, check the HP driver page to see if any updates are available for your model.  If your printer does not have an update available there is a workaround that may help:  some users have reported that temporarily installing the printer as a USB connected device, then changing back to networked once the installation has

Hi Bob,

I am using a HP PSC 1510 printer on an ACER laptop running windows 7. Until I bought a new laptop I was always able to print ob both sides of the page automatically, but since upgrading I have downloaded new software from the HP website and tried every conceivable setting in them but the only way I can double sided print is manually, having to only put in the correct amount of paper to prevent the printer from running ahead of itself, then I have to rearrange all the pages and put them back in the printer, it is very time consumming and irritating. Looking at your solutions in response to prior quetsions I have discovered that under installable options I don't have he one you refer to as Duplex unit (for 2-sided printing). the only options I have are ;  allow manual duplexing , activate the hardware auto-off feature and configure print cartridges.

Can you help me? I'm tearing my hair out with frustration

Re: Vista / Win 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide

The troubleshooting guide that is repeatedly posted does not help me either.  There is no option for the automatic duplexer in the printer properties with the cd1160 driver.

The option is there for the 6500 driver, but I can not seem to get my computer to use anything other than the cp1160 driver ... it keeps automatically installing when Windows 7 recognizes that as my printer.
