If I understand you correctly, you want to print two pages on a sheet, paper folded in half, in booklet style.

The following was tested on Letter paper (8.5x11in).  The same methodology works for A4, of course.

The trick, if there is one, is to let the PDF software do the work.

Try the following:

Set the Preferences in your Printer

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences >

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

:Arrow_Right:  The "Preferred" shortcut is General Everyday Printing

NOTE:  Using the following method, the booklet settings are managed in Adobe Reader DC print booklet options.

Save your Word document as a PDF file

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC / Foxit Reader)

  • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software

Open and Print the PDF file in Booklet style

Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader DC

Click the Print icon

In Page Sizing & Handling

Select Booklet

If necessary, Set the side binding - defaults to Left for Western languages

Click Print

Testing

If you are unsure of the results, print just enough of the document to check the setup.

Example - HP Officejet Pro 8740 - Set Preferences (Preparation)

Example -  PDF Test File - Open document in Adobe Reader DC

Booklet_Print_8740_PDF_1Booklet_Print_8740_PDF_1

Example -  PDF Test File - Print document in Adobe Reader DC > Booklet style

Foxit Reader also prints booklet style and is also intuitive about the setup necessary to create the output.
