Solved!

Wifi Direct prints 'vanish'

Envy 5649
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Wifi printing is not working from my laptop. USB is as is printing wirelessly from other devices.

When I print (Win10) the job enters the print queue....disappears from the print queue but never gets printed

The laptop recognises if the printer is on or off line OK

Have deleted and resinstalled drivers. Have cleared the print spooler, have tried disabling AV, have checked my printer has the latest firmware

None of this has worked. Have tried shouting and screaming at my laptop - that didn't work either but briefly made me feel better.

I'm pretty techie but reaching the end of my process of elimination steps. Will I forever be chained to my printer by USB cable....please help release be from the bonds of 1990's technology 😉

Wifi Direct prints 'vanish'

@Jona6tc1,

I reviewed your post and I understand that the printer is not printing black.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the wireless light status on the printer? (Blinking or steady)

Do you want to use the printer wirelessly or using Wifi direct? These two are different things.

If you are planning to use Wifi direct, then follow the steps in the below article.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04090221

If you want to use the printer wireless, then make sure the printer is connected to your wireless network. You can do so by check the wireless light on the printer, if the light is steady it means that the printer is connected to the wireless network. Or else you can print the network report from the printer front panel.

If the printer is connected to the wireless network then follow the below steps.

Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from this Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

Also, try using the HP Smart App and let me know if that helps. Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hp-smart/9wzdncrfhwlh

You can refer to this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03561640 for more information on HP Smart App

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Solved!

Wifi Direct prints 'vanish'

Hi to answer your questions

Wireless light is steady (as I said in post...other devices can wifi print)

I've tried wireless and wifi direct

You said to use V5.0.2 of the scan doctor app however the one on the link you left if 5.3.1

It detects and tries to fix OK (says it has fixed a port match)

I try a test print....it says it is printing but nothing happens

I click No Print and the app hangs (using 30+% of my CPU time).....this is repeatable every time - have tried leaving in the hung state for several hours and it never comes back (I have to kill the process in task manager)

The Smart App can see the printer and read its status like ink levels etc

Any other thoughts?

thanks

Jonathan

Wifi Direct prints 'vanish'

@Jona6tc1,

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then add the printer using the printer IP address.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

Add the printer using IP address -

1. Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2. Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3. Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4. Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5. Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6. Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7. Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8. Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
