carriage jam

Carriage error. I've done all troubleshooting multiple times. I cleaned everything I could. No debris anywhere. It seems maybe the rollers that feed the paper are off. They roll but one side looks more forward than the other forcing paper to feed crooked and then only half a page prints before it says paper jam or carriage jam. I replaced the ink too. Can it be fixed or am I out of luck. The printer says it doesn't need to be aligned when I ran diagnostic but right after that the code error comes back

@Saifsmom2012, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Kindly make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document - 'Carriage Jam' or 'E3' Error Displays.

Clean the paper feed rollers.

  1. Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord and any other cables.

       WARNING:

You must unplug the power cord to move the carriage by hand and reset the paper feed mechanism without the risk of electrical shock.

  2. Raise the input tray and the input tray extender.

  3. Lift and hold the input tray shield.

    NOTE:

Do not remove the input tray shield. The input tray shield prevents foreign debris from falling into the paper path and causing paper jams.

  4. Look down through the open input tray and find the gray paper pick rollers. You might need a flashlight to illuminate the area.

  5. Lightly dampen the cotton swab with water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the swab.

  6. Press the swab against the rollers, and then rotate them upward with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove dust or dirt buildup.

  7. Release the input tray shield.

  8. Allow the rollers to dry completely (approximately 10 minutes).

  9. Reconnect the power cord and any other cables, and then turn on the printer.

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
