Microsoft Windows Vista

My printer has started 'squeaking' when preparing to print recently.  Today it is stopping printing half way through a page and I get a message that there is a carriage jam, I should clear the obstruction.   I cannot find any obstruction. Then I had another message saying that the cartridges could not move.   Can anyone help please?
