Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer (desktop) is not setup to be wireless and I prefer ethernet anyway. But, the wireless printer will not install. There was a message that I may have a problem, but thought entering the IP address would fix it. It still will not install. The computer does not find the printer. The scanner works fine and does connect to my computer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

 

Try to access the EWS page of the printer to check the connectivity between the printer and the PC

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer. Make sure the ethernet cable is connected. Use a private network. A public network may not work.
  • Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
  • Go to Tools > print a test page.

I have an ethernet cable to plug into the printer (since it appears I cannot use wirelessly when computer is on ethernet) but I need some kind of adaptor. The port on the printer is for a USB. I do not want to connect via USB. The only adaptors I find  will not fit into the port on the Envy 5055 (is it a USB 3.1 port?)

What's the exact error message? 

 

Please try these steps -

 

Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues. 

 

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
