duplex printing automatically stopped, device settings say 'automatic duplexing unit' not installed

Automatic duplex printing has stopped, only manual allowed.  The device settings says that the 'automatic duplexing unit' is NOT INSTALLED. 

It's worked for over a year.  Something changed.  How to fix it?

Hi,
Make sure the Automatic Duplexing option is enabled:

Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right-click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.

Now Automatic Duplexing should become available.

No, that does not work. 

"Device Settings" shows that the "Automatic Duplexing Unit" is "Not Installed" and "Automatic Configuration" is "Off."

"Not Installed" is grayed out and cannot be changed.

I can change "Automatic Configurations" to "Update Now."

"Automatic Duplexing Unit" changes to "Installed."

But as soon as I attempt to print anything,  "Automatic Duplexing Unit" changes back to "Not Installed."

So today, my wife found that she can print automatic duplex with her iPad.  Good ole Apple.  I still cannot print automatic duplex with my Windows 10 PC.  So I spent MORE time searching the net and found nothing helpful.  I decided just to go to the HP site and DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE SOFTWARE SOLUTION PACKAGE for my Envy 4510.  Another hour wasted... absolutely nothing changed.

This is typical, I guess.  As soon as the warranty runs out, the thing stops working,  HP won't help, and throws you to the mercy of the community.

OK, well, I can't continue to waste my paper printing single-sided, or waste my time by feeding everything in twice.  Not to mention the two days I've wasted troubleshooting this problem, which was probably caused by HP updates anyway.  As soon as I run out of ink,  I'll go out and purchase a new printer, keeping my distance from HP.
