Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Which part are you referring to as arm? Please elaborate. Are you referring to the tray?

Thanks 🙂

I  referring to the extension that unfolds to support the paper.

I'm referring to the extension that unfolds to support the paper when it comes out of the printer, the arm, the tray, so to speak. It stopped doing that and now the paper just falls out of the printer.

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

I hope that helps.

Sorry. The output tray extension still doesn't open.

UPDATE: I kept on trying and suddenly the extension opened after the printjob was done, so when the paper was already on the floor. Conclusion: from time to time it opens, but too late.

Ok, do let us know when the next time it happens.

Thanks 🙂

It happens all the time, that is: the extension almost always does not (NOT) unfold! The rare occasions it does unfold, it does so after the printing job is finished!!!

Please give satisfacory answer.
