hp officejet pro 8500 wireless all-in-one printer suddenly quit working and displays  "turn power off, then on again" after it runs through its system check. Unplugging it and letting it sit for 3 minutes and plugging back in directly to the wall does not help..

Printer just quit working without warning or any system changes, or power failures. Very frustrating that the message it gives does nothing to fix the problem it thinks it has.

Hi @Atlanta_Realtor

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printer issue.

To better assist you - Are you able to make a copy?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps to reset the printer -

1) Take out the cartridges.
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware -  HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

wow so the only fix is to unplug and plug unit back in??? It seems like if the printer is going to issue a message it ought to give a code that leads to a message online that is of some use.

It might have just as well have said, "Something is wrong, and I am not going to tell you what it is, go buy another printer and save your time trying to fix me."
