Hello, @jasmemphis - Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome back to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I see that you are having issues while adding the printer on your MAC Sierra. Let’s try the steps listed below to try and fix this issue:

  • Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  • Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
  • Restart your computer and printer.
  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip download and install the printer driver.
  • In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
  1. Click the “Add button” (+).
  2. Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  3. Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “AirPrint” would be selected)

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Most of what you said I did .

As a senior member of the technical world, I am kind of reluctant to do anything with the word 'driver' , 'zip' or other terms I don't use on a daily basis.

I found a reply , though not directed to my circumstance, gave me a path to try.   I won't confuse you with my solution.   End result:   Boom !  -  my printer is working.

I am saving your reply should I encounter the problem again though now I am sure the printer and I are on good terms - even better terms than before.

Thank you for taking the time to offer a very professional solution .  I am happy to have discovererd a great place to find support.
