HP Officejet Pro 8500A plus

Hi,

I have a pretty old Officejet Pro 8500A plus (bought in 2011), which is used occasionally. Lately (after a long time being inactive), it is only printing in black and in very poor quality, worsening with each (test) page I print.

I replaced the (expired) inkt cartages with new ones and I have run the different standard solutions several times:

- printing alignment page:

      - very bad quality, only in black/grey

- printing print quality diagnostic page

      - very bad quality, no colors, test patern 1, 2 and 3 all showing errors

- cleaning printer heads ("normal" and "deep cleaning") multiple times

- aligning printheads: always resulting in an error message

- calibrating

none of the above helped to solve the issue.

Before buying new printer heads I was wondering whether, based on the above descriptions, this is likely to solve the issue, as it would cost more than half of the price of a similar new printer (wanting to avoid ending up with a broken printer with new ink and print heads)

@Godfried

I'd buy a new printer.

This model 2011 printer was nice for its time - now, not-so-much.

Personal opinion, of course.

Be sure if / when you are looking for a replacement that you opt for the features you really want.

For example, if your budget allows it, opt for a mid-to-higher grade Officejet Pro that supports Digital Send.

If you can get it, single-pass 2-sided scan is a nice feature, too.

At the least, make sure scan/copy/print all support automatic 2-sided documents.
