Solved!

printed photos smudging on glossypaper. HP instant ink used. Still smudges after days drying.

HP Inkjet 3636

The ink dries on ordinary paper but not on photographic paper. Do I have to use a particular type of paper?

Hello @Crabapple1,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're experiencing problems with your photos smudging. I would be happy to look into this with you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

Generally, when photos smudge that would indicate that you have printed on the wrong side the of the paper.

NOTE: Insert a stack of photo paper into the far-right side of the input tray with the short edge down and the print side up, and slide the stack of paper down until it stops. Source

  • Try printing your photo again.
  • Please review 'Printer Specifications for HP DeskJet 3630, 4720 Printers' here and look for Paper-handling specifications: Supported photo paper.

Please view the steps within one of these guides:

Please let me know the results. : )

I have not yet acted on your 'solution' as I am familiar with photographic paper and am aware that the maker's mark is usually on the reverse.  I thank you for your reply and wondered if a higher grade of paper would solve the problem.:smileyindifferent:
