My Envy 7640 will not print. It gives the message that my color ink cartridge needs to be realigned. Yet it appears to be in line with the black cartridge next to it. I pulled it out and reinserted it several times with no success. I checked the ink supply and the color cartridge was could not be detected.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. Let us try these steps:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Insert only the black ink cartridge and check if the error message persists. Kindly refer to this document to know how to insert the ink cartridges in the printer.
Note: Make sure the protective plastic tape if any is removed from the ink cartridge.
Perform step 3 mentioned in this document.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
