printer problem

Product Name: officejet pro 8600 premium
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

my printer says cartridge problem

one or more cartridges appear to be damaged , remove them and replace ,

I have tried 3 different brand new cartridges , it is only the cyan cartridge that has a problem and as I said I have replaced it with 3 different brand new hp ink cartridges and it says same thing every time


no idea what is next

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet pro 8600 Printer. I understand that your getting cartridge error and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.


Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well.


Reset the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.


    HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Make sure that the cartridges are inserted correctly.


Check the carriage latch.

Remove and inspect the cartridge.

Clean the cartridge contacts.
