Setting up printer. When I open the door to install the ink cartridges, the print head remains motionless at the right side of the printer. It does not move to the center, it does not move at all.

@Rocky110

I'm afraid this is a possible hardware issue with the print carriage in the printer. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Make sure all the packaging material is removed from inside the printer. Also, check for any paper jams or foreign objects inside the printer.

Perform step 1 from this document.

To know how to insert the ink cartridges, kindly refer to this document.

I  did the unplugging routine, which did not solve the problem.  I did not try to physically move the carriage.

When searching for a solution at HP, it asked for the model & serial number.  Upon entering them it stated that there  were  9 months left on the warranty (started December 3, 2019), even though I had been shipped the printer in March 2020.

When I called the retailer, they said I had 14 days to return the item, or I could bring it to see if they could fix it, but they could do nothing about the warranty.

I decided to return it.
