printing photos

The following uses the HP Smart Application for Windows as an example to illustrate the explanation.

The size and shape of the printed image is a result of several factors.

For example,

If the original shape of the photo is square,

The resulting print may require that the photo be opened in an appropriate photo software and edited into the shape of the paper on which you want to print the image

and / or

The print may need to be cropped or set to "fit"

and / or

The print may require that it be printed on larger paper and manipulated to present the size and shape of the print you want

and / or

The photo may refuse to print in the altered shape that you want

The printed image may cut off if the orientation does not match the content in the original photo.

HP Smart for Windows provides the options to select your paper size, your photo size, and the orientation.

To see whether what you want is going to work,

download and install HP Smart for Windows

Open the application

Select the photo you want to print

When the photo print menu opens, select "ON" "Let the app change my printing preferences"

Select the orientation, the paper size, and the photo size

Leave Borderless "OFF" (Printer does not support borderless printing.)

Change the various settings to see the preview (what the application thinks will print on the paper).

Open More Settings to select / confirm other settings.

When ready to try it, click Print

General Example - HP Smart - 5x7 inch print

Note that the "normal" orientation of this photo would be "landscape" - some details have been cut off from the edges to force the image into the narrow-tall configuration.

Things are much simpler if the original shape of the photo is already in the shape you want to print.

In the case of an image that is rectangular,

Portrait (5 inches wide by 7 inches tall)

Landscape (7 inches wide by 5 inches tall)

General Example - Officejet 9025 - Borderless Print - Landscape 4x6 inch
