when trying to print labels, it pulls the sheep partway in then says outr of paper

using Officejet 6500.  Trying to print out on a label sheet.  It prints fine on regular paper, but when put sheet in, it will pull it partway in then says out of paper.

The label paper may be thicker than normal paper and may be getting "stuck".

One of two models found for Officejet 6500:

HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer series - E709

• The Specifications say that the printer supports Index paper (card paper manufactured to an ISO standard).
• The Specifications also indicate that the printer supports custom paper sizes.
• The standard index paper sizes do not include the "regular" size paper (Letter in the US / A4 elsewhere).

If you can create a Custom Size Paper form from one of the supported Index paper sizes and use that custom form with Media type "Index" (or Card - wording may vary), you might be able to print that label paper.

Although custom paper sizes are apparently supported (Specifications > Paper Handling > Other supported paper), the "normally" used method may not work for this printer / software.

The trick, if there is one, is to select a Media type that is thicker than regular paper, for example, that Index / Card paper.

Select the custom size, that is, the size of the sheet of labels (not the size of an individual label).

Why the weirdness?

Normally, regular paper size (for example Letter / A4) would not be considered a "custom size" - the only reason this might be necessary is because according to the Specifications, "Card" paper standard sizes do not already include the Letter / A4 paper size.

So, maybe it will work.

Were I you, I would set up the job without actually using the document that has your labels created in that document.  In other words, set up everything as if you are going to print but use a blank document / label template.  The point is to get the paper to feed through the printer before you waste more label paper printing "partial" sheets.

Sorry for the "well, try this and that" approach.  The printer is an older model - the specs say it can do this, it is not clear (to me) exactly what you need to do to accomplish the task.
