HP Envy 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Iv had the printer for a year, was not used much in the beginning. Now that i need it often, it does not perform. The printer does not print from my laptop. I constantly get the error msg, 'Printer needs user intervention'. Printer status: attention required. I have done everything physically possible to get it to work, but have found nothing to solve issue.

I have ran doctor 5.0, it apparently fixes the queue, does recomended updates and sometimes match port, same results evertime. when i click test print. the error msg appears. then doctor 5.0 informs me to print internally, which works. But printing anywhere else, forget about it.

I have unpluged and repluged the printer and my laptop, cycle is a hit or miss. it might work for ONE print ONLY. error msg appears after attempting again.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, issues continues.

I have cleard Spooler, PRINTER folder, cleared items. restarted devices. issue continues.

I have checked connections and plugs. everything is fine. wifi connected and strong.

Also attempted to trouble shoot through windows devices, but no issues were found.

I have Windows 10 running on a Dell laptop. HP Envy 5660 Printer.

Hello, @Tdot_Footballer – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I see that you are having issues while printing from your Envy printer. To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.

Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy works fine, then try the steps below to try and fix the issue:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://hp.care/2oNpJQq to install the software.
  • Select Wireless on the connection type window and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂
