1102w
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

HP 1102w has been working fine for several years, but has quit working suddenly.  When the usb cable is plugged in there is an error message stating "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."  I have updated my mac (el capitan 10.11), reset the printing system, restarting the printer and mac, and continue to get the same error.  My other HP 200 series printer continues to work without issue.  When I try to add the printer, it does not show as avaliable to add.

The driver didn't work, same errors and printer not showing.

I have corrected the problem by completing the following:

- Power off printer

- Toss in dumpster

- Purchased a Brother

- Saved a fortune on toner

Greetings @df71

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to install the printer on your computer running on MAC OS.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Are you able to access the printer on any other device or computer?

Recommend you to disable Smart install as suggested in this HP Forums post and install the printer.

Once the Smart install is disabled, please follow the procedure mentioned in this HP Article to install the printer on your computer running on MAC OS.

If the issue persists, I will be sending you the procedure to reset the printer in a private message.

Please follow the procedure and install it back on your computer.

Keep me posted.

No luck, here is what I did:

- installed printer on windows pc, it worked

- disabled smart install, this removed the printer and it is now showing as an optical drive

- tried to update firm ware, not possible without printer installed

- tried to install driver on windows pc, not possible without smart install

- reset printer

- same original error on two different macs

willing to give it one more try.......

Hi @@df71

I am the The_Fossette. It looks like you were interacting with @Chimney_83, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Please download the driver from the below link and installs it.

After the driver is installed, perform the below steps.

1.) From System Preferences, click on Print & Scan.

2.) Click the Plus sign.

3.) Select the listed HP LaserJet Pro P1102w.

4.) Click the drop-down menu next to Use or Print Using and click on Select Printer Software.

5.) Select the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w from the list.

6.) Click OK to confirm your selection and add the printer, then try printing using the configured print queue.

7.) Use HP Easy scan for scanning.

Let me know how it goes and you have a good day ahead.
