HP LaserJet Pro M402
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I work for a ticketing agency which prints a high volume of jobs with pre-printed letterheads. These letterheads are initially slightly 'longer' than standard A4, but are mechanically folded from the bottom with adhesive at the sides to create a pocket, subsequentally making the sheet sizes standard A4.

We currently have a large number of old HP LaserJet 4250's that print with this paper in high volumes, and have rarely had an issue with paper jams due to the pocket folding out or creasing through the paper feed... however, these printers have been around for ~15 years, and the printers are starting to become obselete, with more frequent repairs needed.

I recently spoke to a HP salesman over the phone who said that the m402 would best suit our needs (one sided, only text printing), but we have an m-series printer here (I believe it's the Color Enterprise m552) that undoubtedbly jams every time a 'pocketed' letterhead is fed through.

With that out of the way, does anyone have any advice or experience that could help me out in ensuring I can replace these 4250's? They're starting to become obselete due to expensive parts and frequent repairs. Is there any settings that can be changed? Is the M402 capable of printing on pocketed letterheads?

That HP salesman must be new at his job. Recommending M402 to replace 4250 is a joke.

What would you think would be an ideal replacement? Bear in mind it needs LAN & USB connectivity, one-sided print and a similar yield and page capacity of a 4250.

HP 4250 and 4350 are probably best printers ever made by HP, finding a fairly good successor to those printers is a hard task.

Maybe just maybe M600 series can mechanically match HP 4250, but reviews scores of M600 are low.

Thanks for the input.

Looking at that printer... the price is a bit steep, but yeah, it meets the core requirements, so the only way I could see us getting this is if we ever found a refurb supplier in the UK that has tens of these.

Anyone else have any ideas?
