CM4540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My CM4540 LaserJet printer ran into a problem recently, identical to the problem found here:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/CM4540-stuck-at-initializing/m-p/5709927

That is, on booting, the printer never passes the "Initializing" step, with a counter increasing without end. I have attempted to reinstall the firmware to no avail. If it's an issue with the hard drive, can I replace it with any hard drive & reinstall the firmware or do I need to order a replacement specific to my device? Thank you for your time.

There is a diagnostic routine in the reboot menu that you can run to test all the electronics. The drive can be replaced with any 2.5" SATA drive, but if the drive doesn't support self-encryption then data can be vulnerable, but unit will function as normal.

I just ran the diagnostic routine & found that "The ICB cannot be found." and that "An I2C failure was detected" under the ICB and Interconnect devices respectively.
