Color LaserJet Pro M277dw wont connect to the internet

I have successfully added the printer to our workstations so print and scan functions work fine.  However the wizard pulls a 169.254xxxxx IP address and Web Services cannot connect to the internet.  We have a multi access point wireless network, we have set up a special SSID for the printer, we have tried every method of wired/wireless connection, I have spent 8 hours on HP Chat and I/we still cannot get it to pull a valid IP address.  I understand this is a router issue but I don't know what to do next.

I understand that you have an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw and it does not connect to the wireless network. I read that you have spent a lot of time troubleshooting this issue and have tried various steps. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

Before you consider replacing the router or checking with the router manufacturer, please try the following steps. (please ignore if you have already perform the steps):

NOTE: The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections, and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.

  • Turn off the router by pressing the power button or disconnecting the power cord.

  • Turn off the printer, and then unplug any USB or Ethernet cables.

  •  NOTE: When a USB or Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, the printer cannot connect wirelessly.

  • Close all running programs on your computer, and then shut down the computer.

  • Reconnect the power cord to the router, and then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.

  • Turn on the printer.

  • Turn on the computer.

If the issue persists then you may check with the router. Please keep me posted for any further questions and we will take it from there. All the best! 🙂

We have a multi access point system and I read in another thread that creating a new SSID on one of them and connecting to it solved someone else's similar problem.  Note:  I had no issue using the printer on the network, but the printer would not pull a valid IP address and actually join the network.  This effort also came up empty in my situation.  At that point I had a network specialist come in and, while I don't know what he actually did, he was successful in joining the printer to the network.  Everything is fine now.

That's great news. I'm glad to know that the printer is connected now to the network. But I will keep this post for our investigation and check what could be the possible solution.

Upon further effort, I have discovered that while  the printer is successfully joined to the network with a valid IP address, I am still unable to enable web services -- it still won't connect to the internet.  Every other device on the network can but this friggin printer.  Now what?

HP Chat support was finally able to change the appropriate settings to allow the printer to access the internet.  Now all functions are working and I was able to add the printer to HP Connected.  Thanks to all who helped but it would be nice if it wasn't so difficult.

Brilliant effort, hats off to you for trying the steps. I understand that sometimes the simplest of the steps make it difficult to fix an issue. But I'm glad to finally the web service is on. Take care! 🙂

I am having the exact same problem.  I can connect to WIFI but the HP applications section of the printer menu complains that it is not connected to the internet.  Was wondering if it was a firewall problem?
